DESCRIPTION:Brattleboro native Andrew Laitres is a singer/songwriter\, guitarist and performer who joined his first band at age 14 in 1976. He played concerts and dances at High schools across southeastern Vermont and southwestern New Hampshire for the next 3 1/2 years until the band broke up at the end of High School in 1979. Andrew joined his first professional touring band (8084) in 1982 and spent the next 4 years on the road in the Northeast of New England and Canada.  \nSince 1986 Andrew has focused mainly on recording and has released 17 albums of original music. He played in a band with Lisa McCormick in the early 90s as well as The Reptiles in 1988. Andrew also started playing solo acoustic gigs in the 90s. He covers a vast array of 60s\, 70s and 80s classic rock as well as performing his original music\, and we’re very excited to have him perform for us!

DESCRIPTION:Last time we had these guys scheduled to play\, Adam\, the bass player\, mashed one of his fingers in a door\, the day before the show\, so Tim ended up playing solo. A great set! Adam’s finger is (mostly) all better now\, so I wanted to get them rescheduled to play as a duo\, ASAP. \nAn acclaimed guitarist\, and singer/songwriter\, Tim Dyer easily crosses genres from funk\, blues\, R&B\, and soulful rock. He was the co-founder of popular southern Vermont band\, Social Medication\, and a veteran of the New England jam band circuit since the 1990s. He studied at the Berklee School of Music\, where his playing attracted the attention of Teddy Slatus\, the long time manager of the legendary blues guitarist\, Johnny Winter. Tim went on to play live shows supporting Johnny Winter\, before relocating to Austin\, TX – landing right in the heart of the fertile Austin music scene\, playing many live shows in Austin’s finest live music venues. Now he’s back in New England – yet another Austin-to-Bratt transplant! – and ready to put on a fantastic\, lively\, intimate show for you!

DESCRIPTION:Jim is a singer. In fact\, he takes a certain amount of pride in his lack of any desire to make his guitar playing a center of attention. Instead\, he uses the instrument to provide a sort of ‘canvas’\, to which he applies his emotive vocals to ‘paint’ the images he wants to share with his audience. He plays mostly cover tunes\, but every now and then\, if he’s feeling a little frisky\, he may throw in an original. ‘Friskiness’ aside\, however\, his song choices are often surprising and evocative\, always interesting and extremely well-executed. \nYou may also be familiar with Jim as half of the Pink Floyd tribute act\, Midnight Floyd – Eclipsed\, with Tom Gutermuth on lead guitar.  They will be performing for the Local Music Showcase next month\, stay tuned!

DESCRIPTION:Some of his press\, through the years\, says it best:  \n“Jack Kerouac with a guitar.” – (Bob McCarthy)  \n“Truly compelling lyrics and heartfelt vocals driven by memorable tunes.” – (John Chapin) \n“…a voice that sounds like mahogany covered in molasses and bourbon; you know it’s a voice that’s seen some things\, and done some stuff.” – (Norman Wheatley) \nLarry Allen Brown is a Berklee College of Music alumnus\, and a multi-album recording artist. Born and raised in Chicago\, he’s enjoyed a long career as lead guitarist for a variety of groups\, as well as having embarked\, decades ago\, upon a rewarding solo career as a composer\, performer\, and teacher on the acoustic guitar. His strong\, finger-picking style is heavily influenced by artists such a John Prine (who graduated from the same high school\, just a couple years ahead of Larry)\, Dave van Ronk\, John Fahey\, and Martin Simpson. \nLarry has lived\, performed\, and taught in many places around the US. Based in Brattleboro for much of his recording career\, however\, his original music is distinctly expressive of what one might call “a true\, Vermont sensibility”. (Check out his album “Covered Bridges”\, as well as his others\, wherever you check out your music.) Larry moved away\, briefly\, to Nevada two years ago. He’s back now – permanently this time – and the Local Music Showcase is pleased to be presenting his first public performance\, since his return.

He’ll be playing a few of his own\, slightly off-kilter\, original tunes\, and a selection of covers from some of his favorite bands/performers. \nBear Fox definitely has his own cool and laid back style\, which he weaves into his vast repertoire of classic rock\, blues\, and Americana covers. It’s the kind of music you want to sip an ice cold beer to\, on a pleasant spring evening – the reminder we all need\, that summer is getting closer with every passing day! \nDaniel Hales is the singer and songwriter for the eclectic rock band: The Frost Heaves & Hales. He plays mostly cover tunes\, but every now and then\, if he’s feeling a little frisky\, he may throw in an original. ‘Friskiness’ aside\, however\, his song choices are often surprising and evocative\, and always extremely well-executed.

DESCRIPTION:Happening May 3rd\, at 7pm\, at the Newfane Union Hall – 5 Church St.\, Newfane \nAhhh… who listens to the words of songs anymore? Who’s got time or attention for that!?!? \nWell\, we’ll let you in on a little secret: There are people out there\, wandering amongst us humans\, who seek to do more than just slog through their days – get up\, go to work\, pay the bills\, and do the dishes. These are people who like to…observe. \nSometimes they’re observing ‘BIG-HUGE-IMPORTANT’ things\, other times\, maybe\, ‘littler-but-no-less-significant’ things… Sometimes they’re looking ‘outwardly’\, at all the crazy/cool stuff that’s forever going on around us. Other times they may be more inclined to look ‘inwardly’\, at their own reactions to so many whirling\, cascading\, careening\, outward events. \nThese people often ponder the things they observe – I mean\, really think about them! These thoughts can be a real mixed bag; wildly profound\, deeply nuanced\, poignant\, prophetic\, sorta-twisted\, just plain\, good ol’ FUN\, or some version of ‘all-of-the-above’. Occasionally\, they have ‘a little something-something’ to say about them\, and some inspired few jot their thoughts down\, put them to music\, and choose to share them with the world! \nThere seems to be a concentration of these ‘thoughtful\, musical types’ living and observing\, thinking and working in the hills and valleys surrounding our sleepy\, woods-y little region. The Local Music Showcase believes they can be a tonic to us all\, and as such\, a ‘Cause for Celebration’. \nSo\, we celebrate!.. With showcase performances by: \nAlexis Pastuhov – Alexis has been writing and performing original music for nearly 20 years. From Portland\, ME to Denver\, CO Pastuhov has shared his unique brand of indie-folk on stages large and small. Drawing on influences that range from Elliott Smith to Sam Cooke\, Pastuhov has independently released 3 full length albums\, 2 EPs\, as well as a 2017 album release under the moniker Bad Galaxy. All are worth your attention! Pastuhov’s most recent album\, titled “New Mirror”\, has been his most successful to date\, with the song “Single and Young” gaining real traction on radio and streaming playlists. “Spot on”\, is the phrase we like to use to describe his performances\, as it equally applies to his songwriting\, his vocals\, and his guitar work. \nDon McCullough – Don is…if not exactly the ‘brains’\, then at least the ‘indomitable spirit’\, behind the Local Music Showcase. He is a Bratt-based writer\, musician\, singer-songwriter\, amateur philosopher\, and part-time existential handyman\, fascinated by all-things-creative\, and otherwise having a ball experiencing\, and hopefully serving\, this incredible\, local music community. He’ll be playing a selection of his own\, slightly off-kilter\, original tunes. \nRalph Carson – Ralph hails\, originally\, from Oklahoma\, and lands in southern Vermont after having spent decades rattling around the Boston and Western\, MA music scenes. He is a consummate story teller\, influenced by the Texas singer songwriters of his generation – folks like Guy Clark\, Lyle Lovett\, Steve Earl\, James McMurtry\, and Fred Eaglesmith\, to name just a few\, and he’s sure to charm\, with his rich\, baritone vocals and clever finger-style guitar. \nThere will be special\, guest performances by Mimi Fang and Jodina Meehan! And maybe a few other surprises… \nAdmittance will be by donation ($10 suggested). \n  \nThere will be concessions available for purchase \n\nthe ‘World’s Best’ Brownies ($3)\n(pretty close to) the ‘World’s Best’ Chili ($9)\ncoffee\, soda\, ($2) and more!\n\n

DESCRIPTION:MATT PRICE doesn’t have the patience to write a screenplay. But give him 3:55 and both your ears and he will weave a tale as deeply-textured as a classic novel or as intricate as a film noir masterpiece. You’ll walk away with images that will stick for a lifetime (And a nearly-full tub of popcorn). Christine Lavin says: “Matt is a really fine poet\, but also a terrific singer and guitarist – his style is hard to pigeon-hole – his songs are like mini-movies\, beautifully crafted\, like Cheryl Wheeler’s\, with appeal that crosses all genres.” \n(FYI\, for anybody who’s keeping track – Lord Magnolia\, originally scheduled to play on this date\, had to cancel\, due to ‘life’ and its other obligations. We\, of course\, wish them only-the-best\, and hope to get them rescheduled sometime soon.)
